Prepare

We have been wondering if the dire economic forecast we have seen in some places is true. And if it even might be true, should we begin to prepare for tough times? We have dragged our feet mostly because we don't want to believe that an economic earthquake could come. And just like a real earthquake, one never knows when it will hit so it is easy to put off preparing for something that could be years off or happen in the next moment. We choose to believe that it won't happen in the next moment. In the end, feeling a little crazy, we have begun to build up our stores of food as a hedge against inflation. We have begun to believe that the signs of the times do show that times are changing.

I realized today that we also fail to prepare for heaven, for our own final judgement. We put off doing the things which might build treasure in heaven for our eternal future just like we put off preparing for serious times here and now. We just don't believe that it is urgent to prepare but Christ warned us that the end will come upon us suddenly, and blessed is he who is ready when the master returns. In Matthew 7 Jesus says, "Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock." "And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand." So act! The time is now!

It's hard to believe in an unseen future but I urge you, believe! And prepare....
