Old Poem, New Meaning

I ran across this poem called Return to the Church by Gertrude Von Le Fort, a German woman. While she was not writing about the political situation of today, she easily could have been. Decide for yourself-

Who shall deliver my soul from the words of men?
From a distance they are clarion-calls, but drawing close they turn to an idle tinkle.
They advance with banners and pennants but when the wind rises their brave show is scattered.
Harken ye loud and presumptuous ones, wind-strewn children of your own caprice:
We are parched beside your well-springs, we are starved by the meat you offer us,
We have grown blind by the light of your lamps.
You are like a road that leads nowhither, like so many small steps taken around yourselves.
You are like a driving flood, the sound of your gushing is forever in your mouth.
You are the cradle of your own truth, tomorrow you shall be its grave.

Socialists, communists and progressives are speaking fine words while stealing freedom from us. They are as Shakespeare said, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. What they plan will bring all to starvation and death in the end. There is no progress to be had following them. They feather only their own nests, robbing from everyone to do it. They think that they can determine what truth is but their "truth" leads nowhere, the reality of it is death to all who believe in it.

Prepare

We have been wondering if the dire economic forecast we have seen in some places is true. And if it even might be true, should we begin to prepare for tough times? We have dragged our feet mostly because we don't want to believe that an economic earthquake could come. And just like a real earthquake, one never knows when it will hit so it is easy to put off preparing for something that could be years off or happen in the next moment. We choose to believe that it won't happen in the next moment. In the end, feeling a little crazy, we have begun to build up our stores of food as a hedge against inflation. We have begun to believe that the signs of the times do show that times are changing.

I realized today that we also fail to prepare for heaven, for our own final judgement. We put off doing the things which might build treasure in heaven for our eternal future just like we put off preparing for serious times here and now. We just don't believe that it is urgent to prepare but Christ warned us that the end will come upon us suddenly, and blessed is he who is ready when the master returns. In Matthew 7 Jesus says, "Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock." "And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand." So act! The time is now!

It's hard to believe in an unseen future but I urge you, believe! And prepare....
